This blog is the official online space of our Association. Our goal is for it to serve as a platform that highlights our activities, keeps our friends and members informed, and creates opportunities for communication. Here, anyone interested can follow our events, propose ideas, participate in the Guitar Ensemble, and generally contribute to broader cultural and intellectual development.

Legal Status and Headquarters

The “Rodotopi Guitar Ensemble of Ioannina – Passaron” is an officially recognized Association (Somateio) according to Decision No. 314/2012 of the Single-Member Court of First Instance of Ioannina. The Association is non-profit and aspires to contribute to intellectual growth and musical cultivation, combining both educational and artistic dimensions.

The Ensemble is housed on the upper floor of the old stone Primary School of Rodotopi, following Decision no. 374/2012 granting the space by the Municipality of Zitsa. This location serves as the rehearsal venue for the guitar ensemble and as the Association’s administrative headquarters.

According to the Association’s Statute, its purpose includes:
  • the creation of a guitar ensemble focused on the study, interpretation, and presentation of musical works,
  • the encouragement of participation by guitarists of all ages,
  • opportunities for collaboration with musicians of other instruments, choirs, etc.,
  • the advancement of music education,
  • and the organization of educational excursions to attend artistic performances, among others.
To achieve these goals, the Association remains open to new ideas and proposals, collaborations with organizations (such as associations, municipalities, foundations, schools, etc.), partnerships with musicians and ensembles, and participation in or organization of educational programs, seminars, Erasmus projects, and more.

Membership

According to the Statute, membership is open to individuals over 18 years old upon payment of a €30 registration fee, followed by an annual subscription of €5.

New members can include both musicians and friends of music and culture, regardless of their place of residence, as well as parents of children who participate in the guitar ensembles. Therefore, musical specialization is not a requirement for becoming a member.


Participation of Performers in the Guitar Ensemble

Participation as a performer in the Guitar Ensemble requires a solid level of classical guitar study and corresponding performance skills, with no age limit.

Depending on the program and instrumentation, performers of other instruments (such as bass, percussion, bowed strings, wind instruments, etc.), as well as singers, may also participate.

Additionally, the Association runs a Junior Guitar Ensemble, primarily for primary and secondary school children who are at an early stage of guitar study. To participate, children must be able to read music and play at least simple monophonic pieces. Other instruments may also be included in the Junior Ensemble depending on the arrangements.

The ensembles are open to any interested musician, music student, or friend of music, regardless of residence or affiliation with music schools, conservatories, or teachers. In particular, performers of instruments other than guitar who wish to participate are encouraged to express their interest in advance to the RGE, so that this may be considered when selecting repertoire.

Those interested can send an email to roguenpassaron@gmail.com. Rehearsals usually take place once a week in the Association’s hall in Rodotopi, Ioannina, where all necessary equipment is available.

 
A Few Words About the Building that houses the Association

This building is one of the oldest in Rodotopi. It was constructed during the Ottoman era and served as the residence of the local Ottoman administrator. After the liberation in 1913, it was used as a Primary School until the 1980s.

During the 1970s, the building’s character was altered with the addition of a newer wing intended to provide more space for the school. However, this goal was never fully achieved, as the school was eventually relocated to a newly built facility.

Since the 1990s, the newer extension has housed a nursery, while the old stone section accommodates the KAPI (Open Care Center for the Elderly, ground floor) and the Rodotopi Guitar Ensemble of Ioannina – Passaron (upper floor).
