Volos Guitar Orchestra “Sempre Viva” – “Melotropio” Conservatory

The “Sempre Viva” Guitar Orchestra is a large ensemble of guitarists of all ages, based in Volos, Magnesia. The name “Sempreviva” (from the Italian “ever-living”) was inspired by a beautiful and rare flower that grows naturally in only two regions of Greece. Its unique ability never to wither with time symbolizes the philosophy and artistic spirit of the orchestra’s members.

The Sempre Viva Guitar Orchestra has participated in numerous concerts and festivals across Greece. Among its most notable performances are:
- The charity concert “Manoula mou”, dedicated to Manos Hadjidakis, with proceeds donated to the “Floga” Association for Children with Cancer.
- The concert “A Musical Journey to the Seabed with the 17th Ark”, whose proceeds were offered to the Cancer Patients Association of Magnesia.
- The event “A Hug for E.M.E.I.S.”, held at the Cultural Centre, in support of the E.M.E.I.S. Association for Breast Cancer.

The orchestra has also organized two Panhellenic Meetings of Guitar Ensembles and Orchestras in Volos.
It is noteworthy that the orchestra operates on a non-profit basis, and its activities have a strong charitable character — all performances are carried out voluntarily.
In recent years, it has been affiliated with the “Melotropio” Conservatory, which actively supports the orchestra’s musical endeavours.

Rodotopi Guitar Ensemble "The Passaron" - Ioannina

RGE, January 2023

The Rodotopi Guitar Ensemble of Ioannina “Passaron” has been an officially recognized non-profit cultural association since 2012, by decision of the Court of First Instance of Ioannina, while its activities had begun informally a few years earlier. Through the medium of the guitar ensemble, the association aims to contribute to the development of musical education, to the study, interpretation, and presentation of various musical genres, as well as to the collaboration and artistic exchange with other musicians and ensembles.
RGE Junior, January 2023

The name “Passaron” refers to the ancient capital of Epirus, which, among other things, was the homeland of the mother of Alexander the Great.
According to archaeological research and findings from Rodotopi — including sculptures, coins, a column, a marble inscription, a statue, and other artifacts — it is highly probable that ancient Passaron coincides with the area where the Temple of Zeus Areios in Rodotopi is located today.

Since 2012, the Rodotopi Guitar Ensemble has given more than 90 concerts in various Greek cities as well as in Bulgaria and Poland, including:

  • The International Music Festival at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall
  • Concerts dedicated exclusively to the ensemble, in Ioannina and the wider region (Preveza, Paramythia, Lefkada, Amfilochia)
  • European Music Days in Agrinio and Parga
  • National Meetings of Guitar Ensembles and Orchestras in Volos, Veria, Larissa, Kozani, Kastoria, and Ioannina
  • Student concerts at its own venue in Rodotopi
  • Erasmus+ programme participation in Poland
  • Other events, including appearances in Velingrad (Bulgaria), the University of Ioannina, the Vellas Alumni Association, the Sifnos Music Festival, the Corfu “Varkarola” Festival, and television productions on local networks.

RGE, 2nd Ensemble, January 2023
Particularly significant milestones in the ensemble’s artistic activity include a series of professional video productions, featuring original arrangements and first performances of works for guitar ensemble:
Finally, in collaboration with the Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Ioannina and the Municipality of Zitsa, to which it belongs geographically, the Rodotopi Guitar Ensemble is organizing this year the 6th Panhellenic Meeting of Guitar Ensembles and Orchestras of Ioannina.
